Boyfriend Blues

Life happened on Monday and it upset me so much that I refused to do anything for the entire week but I couldn't stay away for long so I'm back with a Style Me Friday challenge. Eboni has been enjoying her vacation and time off and came back with boyfriend jeans as this week's style inspiration. Boyfriend jeans is another piece that can be worn dressed up or down. Most women can be seen wearing it with sandals and pumps. I'm not big on heels over 3 inches 1 inch even though I do have a pair of pumps in both nude and black. A pair in a bright color would be awesome but that's neither here nor there. I've worn my boyfriend jeans plenty of times in many different ways and for this particular challenge I decided to wear them with a striped tank, blazer and some oxfords. How do you rock your boyfriend jeans? Make sure to check out the other ladies' looks!

Happy Weekend!! There isn't a Style Me Friday challenge this week again so it was only fitting that my inspiration come from my style crush Sincerely Jules which I posted about on Wednesday. Julie's style is right up my alley and I took advantage to copy one of her looks for today while staying true to myself. Instead of a button up, I wore a tank and printed blazer. I found the oxfords in the clearance section and it was marked down with 50% off. I love sales! Do you? Who or what inspired your look today?

Catchy title, eh? I'm sure that phrase was meant for babies though and maybe even dogs. ;-) The inspiration for today's Style Me Friday is button up shirts. Pretty easy right? Last weekend I made some extra money by working for a pop up shop at a friend's local clothing and shoe store Show & Tell. It was a cool experience for me being that I'm quiet and don't usually just walk up to people and try to be engaging and of any kind of assistance. It's probably because I don't want anyone walking up to me while I'm shopping. He or she just need to be available on the off chance that I do need some help. I obviously strongly believe in treat others the way you want to be treated. I'm just saying. Lol. But it was cool challenging myself and I even made some sales! Everyone was asked to wear a button up shirt  but to still be yourself so I styled my look with a bow tie, blazer and oxfords. The cuffed jeans kept it from looking too serious and more casual cool. What ways do you style your button ups?

Happy Friday!! This week I am participating in Real Girl Glam's challenge of denim cutoffs. I think most women if not all own at least one pair of cutoffs. I have about 3 or 4 pairs that I cut from jeans when I needed a pair of shorts in a hurry. Have you done that? Cutoffs are versatile and can be worn dressed up or down. Usually when I wear a pair, it's in a pretty casual manner and I pair it with sneakers, sandals or oxfords. This time I decided to dress it up a bit and paired it with some pumps and a blazer and my fav Beatles tee. I wore this tee a lot when I first bought it and it's still in good condition. Yay! How do you style your denim cutoffs? Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Around The Way Girl

One of the hot color trends of Spring is black and white. This is the inspiration for this week's Style Me Friday challenge. I decided to pull out my inner New Yorker/Jersey girl and created an around the way look. The v-neck I ironed on some letters myself because I wanted a graphic like tee that I haven't worn yet. I was limited in what cool phrases I could come up with because I didn't have any Hs, Cs or Es and probably some other letters too and my final choice was Stylin is my drug. I love styling myself and Mel and anyone else who'll allow me to. Will you?

My look says I'm ready for another weekend to go kick it with my girls. Ha! I mean kick it at home. I think this weekend is going to be busy though. My son is having his 8th grade dinner dance tonight and I hope we can get some good pictures. I'm excited but in awe at the same time about how fast children grow up. I thought about chaperoning but I didn't want to be THAT parent. :-)
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!!

Happy Memorial Day! I hope everyone is enjoying the day off and eating some good food. Today is also Mel's birthday. Happy Birthday Babe! We're going to a family brunch which is going to be awesome because her uncle is a great cook. We're also planning to go thrift shopping at the Goodwill stores as they're having a 50% off sale again. Other than that, we don't have anything special planned but hopefully someone we know will be having a cookout so I can eat some more good food!!

Mel and I attended a business networking event last night and this is what I wore. I thrifted the high rise/high-waisted jeans from Goodwill for about $4. High waisted jeans may be a little hard to pull but one tip I can offer is to wear it with a fitted shirt or a crop top. I paired mine with a graphic tank with some top cities listed on it and a cute blazer that I found on the clearance rack at Target. It was on sale for about $17. It's available online now at a discounted price. I got the ankle boots at Nordstrom Rack for $30. That's a huge deal with the original price being $160. I added some hoop earrings and gold bangles and the outfit was complete.

Short and Sweet

Friday's here! Phew!! Another Style Me Friday challenge for me this week. This week's challenge consist of short suits. It can be a matching suit or it can be a pair of shorts with a nice blazer. When I found out on Monday what this week's challenge was going to be, I smiled from ear to ear because I had just purchased my suit two days earlier. Great minds think alike! The suit I'm wearing is by MNG by Mango from JC Penney. It's a neutral color so I can wear it with almost anything and I like that the fabric is linen which is cool for the summer months. I paired it with a tribal print button up with the same colors as the suit and styled it with two different shoes. One way I added a pop of color with my red wedge pumps and the other way was with my all black perforated oxfords. For accessories, I kept it simple with a gold necklace, bangle watch and a few rings.

What do you think about short suits? Will you be wearing one this summer?

Goodwill Thrifting

This past Saturday, Goodwill Stores had a 50% off sale on all apparel and shoes. I haven't been thrifting in a while so I spent my day digging for treasures. I mean, literally the entire day and night. I started at 9 right after my dentist appointment, which by the way, I will have one final appointment for in July. I went to about 4 different Goodwills. I was the last customer in one of them. I also stopped at Buffalo Exchange as they were having a dollar sale on select items to benefit the Humane Society. There were some cool digs but you couldn't try on anything and I didn't like that so I didn't purchase anything from there. I also took a break halfway through the day and chilled with Mel at the Berkeley Flea Market. We ate shrimp and chicken roti from the Caribbean food vendor. It was my first time having one and it's so good. It's thick and very filling. Okay, back to the haul. I scored 16 items for a total of $59. Is that a steal or what? :-) Here are my finds.

Light pink blazer. $6.99

Old school denim blazer. This jacket is big on me but I couldn't pass it up.
I will be altering it myself and I can't wait until it's done. $4.49

Casual Corner teal blazer. $3.99

The back of the blazer has a small hole but I really like the color so
I am going to cover it up with lace from a curtain that I found for 99 cents.
Finished jacket coming soon.

Forest/tree bark patterned utility jacket. It has small holes here and there but the ruggedness
of it is appealing. $5.49

Ann Taylor Loft red orange dress slacks. I love the gold button embellishments.
$4.99

J Crew floral ankle pants. My first item by this brand. $4.49

Gap cobalt blue broken in khakis $4.49

These are capris that I will cut shorter to about a 5 to 7 inch inseam. $3.99

Bongo high-waisted jeans. Remember Bongo!?! (or am I really showing my age?)
$5.49

I found this vest for Mel. It would look good with a pair of dark blue denim
and some white chucks or cognac dress shoes. $2.49

Forever 21 navy and cream sleeveless cardigan.
I usually need a large in their tops but this fits really good. $2.99

Red green and white striped sleeveless button down.
I can wear this with some cut offs and boots. $2.49

Really colorful floral button down. I like the colors a lot. $3.49

Plain white crew neck tee. It looks pretty good for a white shirt from a thrift shop.
The white shirts I notice usually have stains or are off white. When I showed it to Mel she
thought I got it from somewhere else. $1.49

The last item that I bought was a red medium sized heart shaped bowl.
I put all of my bracelets in it. .99 cents

Do you like to thrift shop? Are there any pieces here that you like?
