Green Envy

green envy pose 1 {who is that girl mo?}

I'm so excited about the green jeans I found at the Goodwill half off sale last weekend. Besides my rust colored pair, all of my jeans are blue and black so this pair was happy to join the rest. This shade of green is perfect to wear year round and I'm already thinking of many other ways to style them.

Blackout

This week's Style Me Friday inspiration is all black everything which sounds pretty easy but adding different textures and shades to a monochrome black look can help make it stand out a little more. I kept my look simple and cozy and styled it with my new bag. I've had it for about 2 weeks now and I'm getting quite used to it but I did feel like a fraud in the beginning. I guess Mo is a grown woman now! :-)

Make sure to check out how the other ladies styled their all black looks!

Leather pants

Happy Friday!!! This week's Style Me Friday inspiration is leather pants and I do not own a pair so I decided to create a board with looks of how I would style my leather pants if I did in fact own a pair. There were so many different outfits that I had in mind so I gave you guys 6 looks instead of my normal 3. The first set includes colors and prints and the second set is all about black and white.

How would you style your leather pants? Which of these looks would you rock?

This week's Style Me Friday inspiration is plaid. I wore plaid  here on Sunday and kept it casual. I also wore plaid with a blazer I made and style it with a grunge look. Today I decided to continue with the plaid and leather look.

The Show Must Go On

Eboni is off enjoying her vacation in Cabo but according to Trina from Baby Shopaholic, the show must go on. :-) Trina chose vests as this week's Style Me Friday inspiration. I have a vest. I actually have a few vests. I have a moto vest, a blazer vest, a few denim vests, and some sweater vests/cardigans. I'm working on getting a utility vest, one day.  A vest is a pretty easy piece to style. You usually just layer it over or under something. Or so I thought. Just because you have the pieces doesn't mean a new look would come to you instantly. I actually styled my look at the last minute last night after work. I decided to go with a leather and denim look and I kept it simple by wearing all black. Casual and comfy with a little edge. How do you wear your vests?

Dressed to the Max

This week's Style Me Friday inspiration is the maxi dress. Luckily, I have one on hand that I made myself about two summers ago. The dress was pretty easy to make. You just need fabric and elastic to complete the project. You can check out this tutorial if you want to make your own. I added a fedora and a denim vest with my dress and some wedge pumps for a little pop of color. I tried to take my photos during the day and was panicking when the sun was going down but I realized that night photos looks cool too. What do you think?

Rock the Boat

This week's Style Me Friday inspiration is pretty simple. It's the gray tee and gray is a neutral color that can be worn with anything. I wasn't sure how I would style my look for this week but after creating a polyvore board centered around the tee and what I currently have in my closet, I was able to finalize it. I kept it pretty simple and styled my tee with a tribal print bodycon skirt and some brown boat shoes. Casual yet cute! I  hope you guys have a great weekend. I will be starting it off with happy hour at Chevy's with a few friends and also enjoying the festivities of San Francisco Pride. Don't worry, I won't party too hard.

DIY: Peplum Top

It's Friday!! Time for some weekend fun. I'm going to a BBQ this evening with Mel and I'm also going to try to attend an event called Fashion Friday on the Plaza. It's a free happy hour shopping event with mobile fashion trucks and wine plus it includes a fashion show. It starts at 5 and ends at 9 and I hope I am able to make it before it ends. I may just go right after work and then head to the BBQ after. Either way I really want to go because this sounds a cool event. Who doesn't like shopping and wine at the same time?
Now on to my outfit. This week's inspiration for Style Me Friday is peplum. Unfortunately, I don't own anything peplum. I kept trying to remind myself that I need to buy something peplum whether it's a skirt, top, or jacket but that obviously didn't work since I have yet to buy one. I really enjoy participating in Eboni's challenges so I try my hardest to make sure that it happens. Since I don't have anything peplum I decided to make one of my own. Believe me, I'm not naturally creative, I just wing it and hope for the best. I used a striped tee that Mel no longer wanted. The key to this project is to use a shirt or dress that is bigger than your normal size so you will have a piece wide enough for the peplum part of the top.
Before
1. Mark  or pin on the shirt where you want the  peplum to go and add an inch. Cut across the shirt where marked. Saved the piece you cut off.
2. Take a shirt that's more fitted and use as a guide to mark where you would take in.
3. Sew along the marked lines using a tight straight stitch. Cut off the excess fabric and sew the edges using a serger or a zigzag stitch.
4. Take the piece you cut and sew around it, about 1 inch away from the raw edge using a loose straight stitch. This is usually about a 4 on the stitch length dial. When finished leave the thread about 3 inches long before cutting. Gently pull the thread and the shirt will begin to gather creating a ruffled look. This will be your peplum.
5. Take the peplum and loosen some of the gathering  by spreading it out. This is to make sure that it's the same width of the top and that it will fit your waist.
6. Place the gathered edge of the peplum over the raw edge of the shirt right sides facing each other. Sew these two pieces together using a tight straight stitch about 1/4 inch away from the gathered edge. You can sew it twice to make sure the pieces will stay put.
7. Try the shirt on and make any necessary adjustments. I had to take in the sides about an additional  2 inches because I wanted it to fit a bit tighter. I also shortened the sleeves.
8. That's it. You're done! Now style your new top and take some photos. :-)

How did I do? Do you own anything peplum?

Around The Way Girl

One of the hot color trends of Spring is black and white. This is the inspiration for this week's Style Me Friday challenge. I decided to pull out my inner New Yorker/Jersey girl and created an around the way look. The v-neck I ironed on some letters myself because I wanted a graphic like tee that I haven't worn yet. I was limited in what cool phrases I could come up with because I didn't have any Hs, Cs or Es and probably some other letters too and my final choice was Stylin is my drug. I love styling myself and Mel and anyone else who'll allow me to. Will you?

My look says I'm ready for another weekend to go kick it with my girls. Ha! I mean kick it at home. I think this weekend is going to be busy though. My son is having his 8th grade dinner dance tonight and I hope we can get some good pictures. I'm excited but in awe at the same time about how fast children grow up. I thought about chaperoning but I didn't want to be THAT parent. :-)
Happy Friday and have a great weekend!!

Cream of the Crop

The weekend's here!! Time to chill and relax. Last Sunday I wore a crop top with a midi skirt and posted it on Wednesday for my boho look. Guess what this week's Style Me Friday inspiration is? Crop tops, of course! I don't have many other than a few t-shirts that I cropped myself, so I cut a striped racerback top that I haven't worn in a while and BOOM! I have a brand new shirt and Oh! it's cropped too. ;-) I used a Serger for the edges to give it a somewhat neater look and to stop it from fraying because the fabric is sheer. I'm so ready to chill this weekend and I chose my outfit accordingly. I paired my new top with black ankle pants and polka dot sneakers. Simple, fun, and comfy.  You can wear the shorter crop tops with high waist skirts or pants/jeans/shorts and the longer crop tops, like I have, with mid or low rise bottoms (high too). This is to keep the belly button covered and not appear like a teeny bopper for those who don't want to show too much skin.

How would you style your crop top?

A Double Dose

This week's Style Me Friday challenge is double denim. I've worn double denim and even triple denim quite a few times. Each time that I've worn this trend it was in a casual fashion and you can check it out herehere and here. For this challenge I chose to dress it up a little with a pair of nude pumps. Both the shirt and jeans are Men's. :-) One tip to rocking this trend is to wear denim with different washes as I've done for this look. My pieces may appear similar in the photos but the top is actually darker than the jeans.
How would you rock the denim on denim trend?

Short and Sweet

Friday's here! Phew!! Another Style Me Friday challenge for me this week. This week's challenge consist of short suits. It can be a matching suit or it can be a pair of shorts with a nice blazer. When I found out on Monday what this week's challenge was going to be, I smiled from ear to ear because I had just purchased my suit two days earlier. Great minds think alike! The suit I'm wearing is by MNG by Mango from JC Penney. It's a neutral color so I can wear it with almost anything and I like that the fabric is linen which is cool for the summer months. I paired it with a tribal print button up with the same colors as the suit and styled it with two different shoes. One way I added a pop of color with my red wedge pumps and the other way was with my all black perforated oxfords. For accessories, I kept it simple with a gold necklace, bangle watch and a few rings.

What do you think about short suits? Will you be wearing one this summer?
