Mimi G Style Sewing, Fashion and Style Conference

This past weekend I had the opportunity to attend Mimi G's second annual sewing and style conference in Los Angeles. I was able to attend through a last minute giveaway that was sponsored on Mimi's site. You guys know I was super excited when I found out that I won because 1. I want to be like Mimi when I grow up and 2. I never win anything. At least not in this capacity, although I have been winning things in the past few months. Must be blogger luck. :-) The event was two days of very useful information and tips regarding, sewing, styling, and fashion. There were about 80 women from all over like Texas, Florida, Chicago, Boston and even Canada to name a few. I met some wonderful sewists and hobbyists and made some new friends along the way. We were given gift bags from Michael Levine and went fabric shopping in the garment district. There are so MANY fabric stores. There were blocks and blocks of them all carrying fabric and the cool part was that almost no 2 shops carried the same fabrics. As an attendee, I was given the option of a plus 1. I knew Mel  wouldn't have been interested So I gave it to fellow blogger Diane from Vintage Zest. I had recently joined her FB sewing group and she asked if she could she be my plus 1 if I didn't already have one. Of course you can! The funny part about that was that I had no idea what Diane looked like. She has absolutely zero pictures of her face posted anywhere. On the first day of the event she found me when I followed her on twitter when I used the #mimigstyle to make a tweet about it. Good thing I have my face posted everywhere huh? :-) Anywho, the event was awesome and I thought I'd shared some photos that I took.

Melswear: Day to Night

The week go by so fast and it's time for another Melswear/menswear Thursday. Yay! This week I centered the outfits around chukka and desert boots because I wanted to create something a bit more dressier. With the boots as my focus point, I chose a pair of dark wash denim as my day to night piece. The graphic tee gives the cardigan and desert boots a look in between casual and dressy. This could be worn for casual Friday while at work or while attending a day event on a Saturday. For the night look, I completely changed the top half with an classic white button up and colorblock blazer. I know that day to night looks usually include most of the same pieces but I only wanted to keep the jeans. The leather chukka boots, gold watch, and striped tie helped dress up this look. It could be worn to a dinner and a movie or maybe a Broadway show. All of the clothing items are from Zara. I love the selection of men's clothing that Zara carries. I'm always thinking of ways to make the pieces work for myself. Sometimes men's clothing are just better. :-)

It's menswear Thursday! This week's Melswear is a bit more classic and simple with the cuffed chinos and black and white high top chucks. I added a graphic baseball tee and some printed stance socks to add a pop of color. The wooden jewelry and denim vest topped off the finished look. Of course you can't forget a fitted cap and this one is cool because it has a black and white aztec print on the brim. Would you guys rock this?

It's menswear Thursday and I didn't get a chance to style Mel this week so I created a board. This is a cool weekend fit to just chill with some friends or maybe do a little shopping in the city. I kept the outfit casual and cool. Mel may or may not wear everything on this board(she went to bed early) but I'm almost sure she would. I like it and I even added a cap because it's what she loves. What do you think about this outfit?

I Dream of Summer

I dream of summer

Happy middle of the week day!! I hope everyone is having a good week thus far. Today I'm sharing  my summer items wishlist. These are just a couple of pieces that I would like to have right now for the upcoming summer months.

1. Printed one piece swimsuit or a two piece suit with mixed prints.

2. A pork pie hat. I've actually been searching high and low for one for a few months now. H&M carried it at one point but it was sold out by the time I was ready to buy.

3. A printed 5 panel hat. I actually would like to have a couple of these. They fit my bean head really well and the patterns and colors are always dope.

4. A tribal/aztec/southwestern cross-body bag. I would probably wear this everyday.

5. White oxfords! I need these in my life. It's kind of hard to find a pair in both my size and price range, but I will find a pair.

6. Maxi dresses of course. Most likely I'm going to have to sew my own since most maxis aren't long enough for my 5'10" frame.

What are some pieces that you would like to have for the summer?

Getting it Together

Good news! It's Monday and I'm not hating that fact. The week is off to a great start. I'm usually wishing I didn't have to do anything. So far, so good. Bad news. I've been a horrible blogger this past weekend. I have not done ANYTHING blog related period. Nothing at all! I don't think I got on the internet. Okay, that may be a lie. I window shop like every day. I think I may have needed a break. I had to create a time schedule because I've been going to bed late. No one wants to see Mo without any sleep. Uh uh. no way. More good news! I have some cool DIYs coming up. Hopefully I'll get them done before the end of the week. You're going to think it's "Amazeballs!" At least I hope you do. So I'm on track to getting things together. I think. Btw, I just made a sandwich with the good, bad, good news. ;-) I hope your Monday is going well too!

Tribal & Lace + Neon

Hey! Today's post is going to be short as I have a long weekend ahead. I'm wearing this nice tribal printed high low top that I found at F21. The top half on the back of the shirt is lace. This detail is what really sold me on buying it. I kept it simple with some black skinny pants and threw in a pop of neon, not with a bag, not with a statement necklace but with my kicks.Yeah I know, I'm different. Well, just a little. I included the usual stack of diy bracelets and a pair of hoop earrings.

What neon pieces do you have? Hope you all have a great weekend!

Well MadeWell

This week the weather has been extremely hot! I mean is it Spring or Summer geez? Don't get me wrong, I prefer the warmer days but it's not so much fun if I can't enjoy it because I'm in a building for 8 hours and I can't go jump in a pool. Sigh.. Anyhoo, this what I wore on Monday. It was sweltering hot. The temperature was in the low 80s. This post's title is centered around this tee from Madewell. I love that there are stripes and polka dots together in one piece.

Goodwill Thrifting

This past Saturday, Goodwill Stores had a 50% off sale on all apparel and shoes. I haven't been thrifting in a while so I spent my day digging for treasures. I mean, literally the entire day and night. I started at 9 right after my dentist appointment, which by the way, I will have one final appointment for in July. I went to about 4 different Goodwills. I was the last customer in one of them. I also stopped at Buffalo Exchange as they were having a dollar sale on select items to benefit the Humane Society. There were some cool digs but you couldn't try on anything and I didn't like that so I didn't purchase anything from there. I also took a break halfway through the day and chilled with Mel at the Berkeley Flea Market. We ate shrimp and chicken roti from the Caribbean food vendor. It was my first time having one and it's so good. It's thick and very filling. Okay, back to the haul. I scored 16 items for a total of $59. Is that a steal or what? :-) Here are my finds.

Light pink blazer. $6.99

Old school denim blazer. This jacket is big on me but I couldn't pass it up.
I will be altering it myself and I can't wait until it's done. $4.49

Casual Corner teal blazer. $3.99

The back of the blazer has a small hole but I really like the color so
I am going to cover it up with lace from a curtain that I found for 99 cents.
Finished jacket coming soon.

Forest/tree bark patterned utility jacket. It has small holes here and there but the ruggedness
of it is appealing. $5.49

Ann Taylor Loft red orange dress slacks. I love the gold button embellishments.
$4.99

J Crew floral ankle pants. My first item by this brand. $4.49

Gap cobalt blue broken in khakis $4.49

These are capris that I will cut shorter to about a 5 to 7 inch inseam. $3.99

Bongo high-waisted jeans. Remember Bongo!?! (or am I really showing my age?)
$5.49

I found this vest for Mel. It would look good with a pair of dark blue denim
and some white chucks or cognac dress shoes. $2.49

Forever 21 navy and cream sleeveless cardigan.
I usually need a large in their tops but this fits really good. $2.99

Red green and white striped sleeveless button down.
I can wear this with some cut offs and boots. $2.49

Really colorful floral button down. I like the colors a lot. $3.49

Plain white crew neck tee. It looks pretty good for a white shirt from a thrift shop.
The white shirts I notice usually have stains or are off white. When I showed it to Mel she
thought I got it from somewhere else. $1.49

The last item that I bought was a red medium sized heart shaped bowl.
I put all of my bracelets in it. .99 cents

Do you like to thrift shop? Are there any pieces here that you like?
