Happy Weekend!! There isn't a Style Me Friday challenge this week again so it was only fitting that my inspiration come from my style crush Sincerely Jules which I posted about on Wednesday. Julie's style is right up my alley and I took advantage to copy one of her looks for today while staying true to myself. Instead of a button up, I wore a tank and printed blazer. I found the oxfords in the clearance section and it was marked down with 50% off. I love sales! Do you? Who or what inspired your look today? DIY: Circle Scarf

Happy Monday! I'm back with another diy and this week it's the circle scarf. This is a pretty easy tutorial you just have to make sure you have the right size fabric. I used a wild/safari looking print fabric that I was given for free when I attended the sewing conference last month. The fabric was about 2 1/2 yards and I cut off half a yard because I wanted my scarf to be 2 yards long. Here are the steps.

Supplies:
1 - 2 yards of lightweight knit fabric (the longer the fabric, the more you can do with it)
pins
scissors
sewing machine

Fold the fabric in half lengthwise right sides facing each other. Make sure the selvage edges are together and pin.
Sew a zig zag stitch about 1/2 inch away from the edge
You should now have a tube. Iron the seams flat. Turn the fabric inside out.
You can stop here if you want. Because most knits do not fray, you can wear your scarf as is.
Bring the bottom right side of the fabric to the top right side of the fabric. You should now have a half tube.
Sew the fabric together around the raw edges with a 1/2 inch seam allowance. Leave about an inch opening.
Pull the scarf through the opening to the right side of the fabric.
Hand stitch the opening closed using a slip stitch.

DIY: Bright Pencil Skirt

It's DIY Mondays and this week I've made a pencil skirt. This is my second skirt that I've made like this. The first one was black and I thought it would be nice to have one in a bright color for the summer. After browsing the selections at the fabric store, I chose a shade of pink. Isn't it a pretty color? Here is the tutorial.
Supplies needed: 1 yard of stretchy fabric like Jersey 1 package of 1 inch wide elastic measuring tape scissors pins chalk or marking pencil sewing machine

Take your waist measurement around the smallest part of your waist. Divide in half. Measure from your waist down to the bottom of your knee or the length you choose. Add about 2 inches for seam allowance. Fold the fabric in half. Using a ruler mark the waist measurement horizontally from the fold. Mark the length measurement vertically from the waist measurement. Cut across the markings. Sew a seam down the length of the skirt about 1/2 away from the edge. Put the elastic around your waist and pull snugly. Cut and sew the ends together using a zig zag stitch. Sew the ends of the elastic together. Pin the elastic to the edge of the skirt. Make sure the seam of the elastic is lined up with the seam of the skirt. Sew a zig zag stitch or use a serger to stitch the elastic to the skirt. You will need t o pull the elastic to make sure it is lined up on the waist. Fold down the elastic and tack on the seam to make sure it stays in place. You can also sew around the bottom of the elastic. Hem your skirt about 1 inch using a long zig zag stitch. This is supposed to help jersey and knit fabrics from gathering. You can also watch the video tutorial from Mimi G.

I used the skirt as my day to night piece on Saturday. I changed the top, shoes, and accessories and my look went from comfy and casual to date night. How was your weekend?

Happy Friday! Phew! I made it through the week. This week actually went by quickly for me which I am grateful for because a had a bad day in there somewhere. Now that it's over, cheers to the weekend!Today I joined Eboni from Fashionista Next Door on her Style Me Friday inspiration. This week's inspiration is pink jeans or pants. Last week was a horrible one being that I was extremely sick and out of it. This week I'm feeling much better. I'm back and it feels good! My cold isn't completely gone but I don't feel as if I'm going to die soon. It also helps that the weekend is almost here. Here's what I wore today.

Movie Night: Denim on Denim

Last night, the in-laws and myself went to check out the widely talked about movie Django Unchained. Unfortunately the dude in line before us bought the last movie ticket. What made it worse was the ticket taker not saying anything to let us know. He just got up from his seat and posted two sold out signs on the window. Really though? Anyway, after chilling in front of the theater as if it was a warm summer evening, we decided to watch the Guilt Trip. I had no idea what that movie was about or who was starring in it, but it ended up being pretty funny. Go check it out, or not. Here's what I wore using the denim on denim trend.
