Boyfriend Blues

Life happened on Monday and it upset me so much that I refused to do anything for the entire week but I couldn't stay away for long so I'm back with a Style Me Friday challenge. Eboni has been enjoying her vacation and time off and came back with boyfriend jeans as this week's style inspiration. Boyfriend jeans is another piece that can be worn dressed up or down. Most women can be seen wearing it with sandals and pumps. I'm not big on heels over 3 inches 1 inch even though I do have a pair of pumps in both nude and black. A pair in a bright color would be awesome but that's neither here nor there. I've worn my boyfriend jeans plenty of times in many different ways and for this particular challenge I decided to wear them with a striped tank, blazer and some oxfords. How do you rock your boyfriend jeans? Make sure to check out the other ladies' looks!

Cute as a Button

Catchy title, eh? I'm sure that phrase was meant for babies though and maybe even dogs. ;-) The inspiration for today's Style Me Friday is button up shirts. Pretty easy right? Last weekend I made some extra money by working for a pop up shop at a friend's local clothing and shoe store Show & Tell. It was a cool experience for me being that I'm quiet and don't usually just walk up to people and try to be engaging and of any kind of assistance. It's probably because I don't want anyone walking up to me while I'm shopping. He or she just need to be available on the off chance that I do need some help. I obviously strongly believe in treat others the way you want to be treated. I'm just saying. Lol. But it was cool challenging myself and I even made some sales! Everyone was asked to wear a button up shirt  but to still be yourself so I styled my look with a bow tie, blazer and oxfords. The cuffed jeans kept it from looking too serious and more casual cool. What ways do you style your button ups?

Curtain Call

Lace is the inspiration for this week over at Fashionista Next Door. I do have a lace back shirt and a lace back blazer but I wanted to style my look with a different piece so I made a lace front sweatshirt. It took less than an hour. I used the leftover pieces from the lace curtain which I thrifted and pinned it down to the sweatshirt. I cut off the excess fabric then straight stitched the lace onto the sweatshirt. I also used fray stop on the edge of the lace to stop it from fraying or unraveling. I love it when I can create something new from something that I already have even if I'll only wear it once. Maybe I should start selling them. Either way, I think I'll get plenty of wear from my new top. :-) I kept my look easy and simple with some colored denim and my favorite pair of oxfords.

Have a great weekend!!

DIY: Leopard Print Tank

I know my DIYs are usually on Mondays but this week's Style Me Friday inspiration was something leopard and well, I have nothing leopard, not even a leopard belt, nope. So I had to make something. Fortunately, I had some sheer leopard fabric on hand that I bought a few weeks ago when I attended a sewing conference. I did not have a pattern for a tank so I cut apart a tank that I no longer wore and used the pieces as my pattern. I will also make one in black satin. Since I've done two DIYs this week, there may not be one on Monday. We'll see. :-)

Supplies:
fabric
old tank
scissors
pins
chalk/marking pen (optional)
sewing machine :-)

Cut apart the old tank at the seams. This will be your pattern.
Make sure the fabric is pre-treated and ironed.
Fold the fabric length wise and pin down the pattern pieces. Make sure to account for seam allowances.
Mark around the pieces with the chalk and then cut or you can just cut the pieces out.
Fold the fabric down about 1/2 - 5/8 inch around the neck and arm hole areas. Iron flat. Sew the hems.
Sew a seam across the shoulder straps. make sure right sides of fabric are facing each other.
Sew a seam down each side of the shirt.
Hem the bottom of the shirt about 1/2 - 5/8 inch.

So I had a major fail with this project. In trying to make sure I had enough seam allowance, I ended up cutting the neck and arm holes too big. I had to re-cut and add darts to the front of the shirt. (I didn't realize I put them directly over my boob area but you can't tell that much.) Even though I knew this wouldn't turn out how I wanted it to, I still finished it. I always finish my projects good or bad. Hopefully the black tank will turn out a little more professional looking. It's hard to tell but I know...

Do you own anything leopard?

Fringe Benefits

Style Me Friday is back!! Yay! It's been two weeks since Eboni posted an inspiration for the weekly challenge due to her busy work schedule. Sometimes we have to work hard so we can play harder. :-)This week's inspiration is denim cutoffs and I've done this challenge a couple of weeks ago with Real Girl Glam. I styled my look then by dressing up the shorts with heels so naturally for this challenge I knew I would style my look by dressing it down. I scored these fringe ankle booties from Target while I was in  LA for the sewing conference. The boots are really cute and I love the studded detail around the ankle. These boots also come in black and gray and I think it's on sale right now. The heel is not too low and definitely not that high which makes it very comfortable to wear all day and that's saying a lot because I have flat feet.  :-) Have a great weekend!

The Green Factor

It's Friday Ya'll! Time for a Style Me Friday inspiration. This week is focused on the monochromatic trend. You know, when you wear all one color from head to toe. Each item doesn't have to be the exact shade of the color. I actually think that's what helps to NOT make you look like a piece of fruit or something ridiculous. I knew this week's inspiration would be a challenge especially since you couldn't wear all white or black. Plus I don't have that many colored pieces of clothing. Eboni made it a little bit easier by allowing us to apply the trend on the top half versus full body. Of course, it wouldn't really be a challenge if I choose to style it that way. I tried purple and of course it made me think of Barney. Not good. A lighter purple top like a lavender would have worked better. The brown was decent but I didn't think it was colorful enough. It was like looking at a chocolate candy bar with hair. No way! Mel said the peach/orange made her think of "Orange you glad I didn't say banana". I thought I looked like a orange sherbet popsicle. Or maybe I was getting hungry. I have a few green/mint pieces and all I could think of was that I might look like the world's tallest leprechaun. Fortunately, I didn't and the all green outfit was both our favorite. I added green and gold accessories and threw on my white glasses. If you're thinking about trying this trend, go for different shades of the same color.  It flows better.

What do you think about this trend? Which colors would you try it with?
