Button Ups

denim button up {who is that girl Mo?}
One of my favorite tops to wear are button ups. I love them with skirts and shorts and jeans of course. Majority of my button ups are from the men's section sense I have broad shoulders and long arms. It just works better for me. This denim button up is usually worn quite a bit because it looks great with whatever I style it with. Today's look I styled it with a tribal print mini skirt and of course a pair of high top chucks.

More Layers

Yay to Friday ya'll!! I decided to do another layered look but went more casual by ditching the sweater for a graphic t-shirt and wearing a good ole pair of chucks.

Have a great weekend ladies!!

Outfit Crush: Winter Sweater

I came across this cute layered look on Style Caster last week and it shared 50 winter outfits to copy right now. There were quite a few that I saved to my inspiration list and this is one of my favs. It is worn by blogger Irena from A Portable Package who's also a dentist by day. Pretty cool, huh? She has a really nice style with looks that most of us would love to copy and make our own.

DIY: Varsity Blues

It's that time of the month again!! Mckenzie and I have teamed up to bring you guys another monthly DIY collaboration and this month's project is based on varsity sweaters. This one was super easy and fun. I styled my cardigan with a button up and oxfords to give it a somewhat preppy look.
Supplies:
cardigan
scissors
felt in 1 - 2 colors of your choice
ribbon in your choice of width
chalk or marking pen
fabric glue
printout of letter
  • With the cardigan on, measure around the upper area of your arm near the underarm area. mark where you want to place the ribbon with chalk.
  • Cut 2 or 3 strips of ribbon using this measurement and add about 1/2 inch.
  • Apply the fabric glue to the ribbon and glue onto the marked areas on the sleeve. Place something in between the sleeves such as a piece of cardboard of magazine. This is so the front and back sides of the sleeves won't stick together. Let dry.
  • Print out a letter of your choice using a large font. I used a font size of 400. Cut out the letter.
  • Place the letter onto the felt and trace around the edge with the chalk or marking pen. Cut out the felt letter.
  • Take the felt letter and place it on top of a new piece of felt. Trace around the edges about 1/2 inch. This will be the border. You can also print out the same letter in a bigger size and trace that as the border. Cut out.
  • Glue the letter onto the border with the fabric glue. Let dry.
  • Glue the letter and border onto the desired area of the cardigan. Let dry.
  • With the cardigan on, mark above and below your elbow with the chalk.
  • Using a round object such as a measuring cup, trace half circles at the top and bottom of the felt for your patches.
  • Connect the lines on the sides creating ovals. Cut out.
  • Apply glue to the elbow patch and press onto marked areas on the sleeves. Make sure something is placed in between.

Do you have any varsity sweaters or jackets in your closet? Will you be making one?

Cute as a Button

Catchy title, eh? I'm sure that phrase was meant for babies though and maybe even dogs. ;-) The inspiration for today's Style Me Friday is button up shirts. Pretty easy right? Last weekend I made some extra money by working for a pop up shop at a friend's local clothing and shoe store Show & Tell. It was a cool experience for me being that I'm quiet and don't usually just walk up to people and try to be engaging and of any kind of assistance. It's probably because I don't want anyone walking up to me while I'm shopping. He or she just need to be available on the off chance that I do need some help. I obviously strongly believe in treat others the way you want to be treated. I'm just saying. Lol. But it was cool challenging myself and I even made some sales! Everyone was asked to wear a button up shirt  but to still be yourself so I styled my look with a bow tie, blazer and oxfords. The cuffed jeans kept it from looking too serious and more casual cool. What ways do you style your button ups?

Melswear: Oxfords

Please excuse the tip of my finger!

My Melswear model is back!! I'm not going to get overly excited but we reached an agreement of 1 photo session a month. It's not much but it is better than 0. I'm hoping I could push that number up to 2 times a month.
This week's look is styled around casual oxfords. Skechers has a collaboration with Mark Nason (who is that?) and the men's collection is really nice. Skechers are a really comfortable brand and you should think about getting your partner at least one pair. It's that comfortable and very stylish. Mel bought 5 pairs after scoring one on sale and now has 6. They also carry a few cute pairs in women's. How do you rock your oxfords?

Faux Leather Shorts: 3 Ways

Yes! I made it to Friday. This week has gone by quickly but I have been extremely tired and haven't had the chance to catch up on my sleep since last weekend. I didn't arrive back home from L.A. until after 1 am because our flight was delayed by almost 4 hours. I so didn't want to go in to work on Monday but life doesn't work that way. Now that Friday is here and I don't have anything planned for this weekend, sleeping in should be super fun. :-) Today's post is centered around my faux leather shorts. I've been trying to wear it as much as I can especially because it may not be trending too much anymore.
Date Night
The first look I'd worn when Mel and I attended a Brandy & Friends concert. I went for an all black everything look and added my DIY Dope beanie. The weather was a little cooler at that so I added patterned tights to the look.
Work and Play

For the second look I wore when I worked as an assistant for a fashion show last month. I styled the shorts with a graphic tank and white blazer and threw on my high top chucks to give it a funky look AND be comfortable with the running around I knew I would have to do.
Casual Weekend

For the third look, I paired it with my black oxfords and a rust colored high low button up. I added gold accessories and called it a day. Simple and cute. Which look is your fav?

Melswear: Working Class

Melswear

Menswear Thursday is here and this week's Melswear is centered around the working class look. I created an outfit based on Mel's dress code at work which is business casual. I like that this look is not too business or formal and can also be worn outside of work. This can be worn to happy hour with co-workers or a quick dinner with friends. It's a simple look but these oxfords makes it a bit trendy. Plus they're comfortable! I know they're men shoes but I did try them on in the store. So light and airy. :-)
How's work going for you today?

Puma Party

It's Wednesday! 2 more days until the weekend. Time to party! Are you ready?
This post is going to be quick since I have to get to work. My top is Puma brand and I thrifted it a few weeks ago for about $3. Score! Olive green, army green, whatever you call it,  is my number 1 favorite color in the world. It's a neutral in my opinion and goes with anything and I snatched it up when I went to the Gap outlet and they had a sale going on. Double score! All of that calls for a party right?

Tuesday Special

I don't usually post on Tuesdays but today is a special day. My son attended his 8th grade dinner dance last Friday evening and I was able to take some pictures AND post them! Of course he chose which pics to post and beggars can't be choosy. :-) He said he had a good time and he took more pics with his friends. Like I mentioned in my post on Friday, children grow up so fast and my son is almost as tall as me. Now I just have to prepare for the HS wars.

Melswear: Maxed Out

We had to take a little break last week as there was too much going on but we're back with Melswear Thursdays. Mel went thrift shopping with me on Monday and this is one of the shirts that she found. It's a mint green oxford shirt by St. John's Bay which I believe is a JC Penney brand. We paired it with some cargo pants, southwestern belt, and air max sneakers. Mel included her signature piece with the basketball cap. Anyone can thrift shop and it's an awesome feeling when you're able to find something cool for less than $5.

A Double Dose

This week's Style Me Friday challenge is double denim. I've worn double denim and even triple denim quite a few times. Each time that I've worn this trend it was in a casual fashion and you can check it out herehere and here. For this challenge I chose to dress it up a little with a pair of nude pumps. Both the shirt and jeans are Men's. :-) One tip to rocking this trend is to wear denim with different washes as I've done for this look. My pieces may appear similar in the photos but the top is actually darker than the jeans.
How would you rock the denim on denim trend?
