DIY: Sequin Trim Blazer

This month's DIY collaboration with Mckenzie from Why buy it DIY it is sequins. I chose sequins for December's project because sparkly and shiny pieces are usually worn for the fall/winter holiday season. I made a sequin trim blazer and this is an easy way for me to look festive without actually dressing up. I also made the gold foil number tee that I'm wearing. I'm so happy because I finally have a number tee in my birth year!
Supplies:
blazer
about 2 yards of stretchy sequin trim depending on blazer measurements
fabric glue
pins
chalk/marking pen
fray stop
scissors
  • Measure around the lapels and collar of the blazer.
  • Mark the wrong side of the trim and blazer with the chalk and/or marking pen by adding dots to make sure that it will be evenly placed when glued.
  • Pin the trim about 1/4 inch to the inside of the blazer lining up the dots.
  • Apply fabric glue to the blazer and press down onto the trim. I did this in sections
  • Let dry.
  • Cut off excess trim and apply fray stop to the ends.

What do you think about wearing sequins for the fall/winter holiday season?

Number 82

Happy Weekend I've been searching for the perfect number tee for a while now and I found it a few weeks ago at Forever21. This number tee has a loose boxy fit and cuffed sleeves which is perfect for my tomboy style and it would have been awesome if I was able to find number 78, the year of my birth, but I didn't. I did spot a number 79 tee but I didn't really like the look of it and I could have easily just made my own tee with some iron-on numbers or number stencils and paint but this was something I wanted store bought. I kept my look simple by styling the tee with a pair of black ankle pants, which I cuffed and one of my favorite black oxfords. Simple, easy, and on trend with the black and white.
Do you have a number tee? How do you style it?

Boyfriend Blues

Life happened on Monday and it upset me so much that I refused to do anything for the entire week but I couldn't stay away for long so I'm back with a Style Me Friday challenge. Eboni has been enjoying her vacation and time off and came back with boyfriend jeans as this week's style inspiration. Boyfriend jeans is another piece that can be worn dressed up or down. Most women can be seen wearing it with sandals and pumps. I'm not big on heels over 3 inches 1 inch even though I do have a pair of pumps in both nude and black. A pair in a bright color would be awesome but that's neither here nor there. I've worn my boyfriend jeans plenty of times in many different ways and for this particular challenge I decided to wear them with a striped tank, blazer and some oxfords. How do you rock your boyfriend jeans? Make sure to check out the other ladies' looks!

Oxfords

Most of you should know by know how much I love oxfords. After much searching, I bought these menswear inspired oxfords about a month ago. I'm so in love with them! They're so versatile and very comfy. I first wore them here in my last post. When my son saw them on me he said "Your shoes are shiny." That they are! :-) It is by the Seychelles brand and appropriately called By Your Side. I know I will be getting lots of wear out of them so I created a few looks showing different ways I would style them. There's a casual Friday/shopping trip look with the boyfriend jeans and wine satchel. Nice and simple with a pop of color. The printed dress and clutch is for a night on the town or date night. I think this shift dress speaks for itself. The third look is my weekend/Sunday brunch look. I love the mix of prints in the look. It's still hot here in the Bay Area so I will continue to wear shorts as much as I can. The last look is for work. For the days I actually want to dress up a bit. The plaid pants are so pretty but way out of my price range and looking at them is better than not having them at all. :-) Which look is your fav?

DIY: Denim Refashioned 2 Ways

Happy Monday guys! This week I am collaborating with Mckenzie from Why Buy It? DIY It!. We will be posting a DIY collaboration once a month on the first Monday of each month which we will title Refashion Mondays. I know today is the second Monday but we finalized everything a few days ago. We will rotate choosing trends and ideas and we will each present our version of the chosen trend. Sounds fun right?! This month's topic is denim refashion. There are many ways you can take a plain pair of jeans and make it look completely different. My last denim refashion was patchwork jeans and you can read the tutorial here. For this refashion I chose acid wash denim and Mckenzie chose two tone denim.
Supplies:
jeans
bleach
spray bottle
rubber gloves
pumice stone (optional)
drop cloth (optional)
There are actually 2 ways that you can go about this project. You can spray the jeans with the bleach or you can soak a pumice stone in bleach and rub it against the jeans. I decided to do both.
Wet the jeans in a sink.
Lay down the drop cloth or take the project outside and wear old clothes in case bleach splashes back. Pour the bleach into the spray bottle.
Spray the bleach onto the jeans. I changed the nozzle until the bleach came out in a straight shot versus shower like and sprayed in different patterns.
I sprayed both sides twice without waiting for the other side to dry. Let the bleach sit for a minimum of 10 mins. I let mine sit for about 30 mins. Your time will depend on the look you want.
I did use a pumice sponge but I'm not sure if it actually helped with anything since it was a sponge and not a stone. But I let it soak in the bleach for about 5 minutes and rubbed it up and down the legs of the jeans. You can create your own pattern.
Soak the jeans in cold water and throw in the washer and  dryer. I don't have a washer or dryer at home so I handwashed with laundry soap and let the jeans air dry. I took it to the laundromat 2 days later.

Make sure you check out Mckenzie's two tone denim tutorial! What do you guys think about Refashion Mondays?
