Remix'd: Stripes and Florals

stripes + florals {who is that girl Mo?}
For this week's project I brought one of my favorite mixed prints together to create a graphic tee. This project was both fun and easy which usually are the best ones in my opinion.

Cream of the Crop

The weekend's here!! Time to chill and relax. Last Sunday I wore a crop top with a midi skirt and posted it on Wednesday for my boho look. Guess what this week's Style Me Friday inspiration is? Crop tops, of course! I don't have many other than a few t-shirts that I cropped myself, so I cut a striped racerback top that I haven't worn in a while and BOOM! I have a brand new shirt and Oh! it's cropped too. ;-) I used a Serger for the edges to give it a somewhat neater look and to stop it from fraying because the fabric is sheer. I'm so ready to chill this weekend and I chose my outfit accordingly. I paired my new top with black ankle pants and polka dot sneakers. Simple, fun, and comfy.  You can wear the shorter crop tops with high waist skirts or pants/jeans/shorts and the longer crop tops, like I have, with mid or low rise bottoms (high too). This is to keep the belly button covered and not appear like a teeny bopper for those who don't want to show too much skin.

How would you style your crop top?

Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a great Sunday and enjoyed Mother's Day. We went to the movies. Mel and I watched The Great Gatsby. My son watched Iron Man 3. He said to me, "Mom, I'm not interested in that movie. I said it was cool for you." Hey, I tried! Anywho, Carey, Leonardo, and Toby were awesome! (I'm pretending like I know them personally.) The movie was over 2 hours long and well, you just have to see it for yourself. In spirit of Mother's Day I decided to do create a mixed print look and went with stripes and florals. The floral ankle pants are from J Crew and the striped cardigan is from Forever 21. Both pieces were under 5 bucks from Goodwill. Score! The ankle booties are a DIY project that you can check out here. The statement necklace is from Lydell NYC and I won it in a giveaway from Anngelik over at Vogue and Heels. (Make sure you check out her blog. She puts together great outfits and she also loves florals). The necklace has 3 mint stones surrounded with crystal diamonds. It's a pretty serious piece of jewelry and I don't own many, which is why I wear the same 4 that I own, but I like it and am happy that I won something since I never ever win anything. At first, I thought the outfit was cute, then I didn't like it, then I felt like who cares, and then I like it again, a little. It's only clothes and I'm having fun putting new and different pieces together since I've began blogging.

Did you do anything for Mother's Day? Will you be checking out The Great Gatsby anytime soon?

It's Melwear Thursday and today's outfit is a special one. Why you ask? Because it my birthday!! *Round of  Applause* Oh, thank you!! Quick story. I went thrift shopping a few weeks ago and found an old school denim blazer that I just loved. The jacket was huge but who cared? I sure didn't. I figured I would either get it professionally tailored or take in it myself. When I showed Mel my goodies and told her that the jacket was a little big, she tried it on and it fit. It fit really well. A little too well. Mel then made the suggestion that I didn't have to get it tailored; I could rock it a little big like the camo jacket style. You know, so we can share. Usually I'm open to sharing anything with Mel but I did not want the jacket to be as big as it was, meaning I didn't want to share. Here goes the sad face. Okay we can share. Wait, no we can't. I'm sorry honey. I then take the jacket to an alteration shop and the little old lady tried to charge me $50! If I wanted to pay that much, I wouldn't be thrift shopping. I then decided that I would just take it in myself. When it comes to my sewing I take my sweet ole time to get started and finished so I have yet to begin the tailoring process. Fast forward to last Friday. We grabbed a quick dinner at Fresh Choice and I made a spontaneous decision to go to the thrift store down the street. :-) Lo and behold, what does Mel spot? The same denim jacket in a smaller size. Hmm, let's see if it fits. OMG, it fits! I think I like it, I really really like it. Wait, you just want the other blazer huh? You're not slick. But, hey we're both happy. Now you have to dress like me for my birthday! *Round of Applause* We chose some rust colored pants, striped tees, and red chucks. I added my bracelets, studded watch, neon belt, hoop earrings and a couple of necklaces to complete my look.  Happy Birthday to Me!!

I'm not doing anything special or going anywhere fancy because this right here is special enough.
What are your plans for your next birthday?

Obviously I really like stripes. I like them in most colors but black and white are my favorite. This collection shows a few pieces I'd rock.

Which striped pieces would you rock?

Happy Hump Day! I hope your week is going smoothly like mine is. The weekend will be here before you know it which is always good. As I frequently mention, I love stripes!! I decided to wear stripes again today. This striped top has both small and large horizontal stripes which I think is really cool.

Happy Spring! Today is the first day of spring which means less layers, brighter colors, and lighter fabrics. Unfortunately for me it's cold, rainy, and foggy. That didn't stop me from wearing my favorite blazer which helps to brighten any gloomy day.

It's hard to tell in the pics but in case you were wondering the jeans are navy in color, the blouse is yellow, white, mint, and navy striped, and the blazer is red.
Did you wear something bright or with a pop of color today?

TGIF! I usually plan what I'll be wearing for a post the night before. Today I woke up and randomly decided that I would make an outfit post. Since I didn't plan what to wear and didn't have much time to really make an effort in choosing something (I stayed in the bed until the very last minute!), today's fit is going to be pretty casual. I just grabbed a top, jeans, sweater, and sneakers. I didn't iron anything and it's all old except for the kicks. Here's what I came up with on the fly.

What outfits have you put together when rushed and pressed for time?

Movie Night: Denim on Denim

Last night, the in-laws and myself went to check out the widely talked about movie Django Unchained. Unfortunately the dude in line before us bought the last movie ticket. What made it worse was the ticket taker not saying anything to let us know. He just got up from his seat and posted two sold out signs on the window. Really though? Anyway, after chilling in front of the theater as if it was a warm summer evening, we decided to watch the Guilt Trip. I had no idea what that movie was about or who was starring in it, but it ended up being pretty funny. Go check it out, or not. Here's what I wore using the denim on denim trend.
