Sew New: Denim Dress

This month's sew from scratch project is a simple dress. I chose a lightweight denim fabric to make it Spring and Summer ready.

Remix'd: Contrasting Sleeves

I decided to add more oomph to a plain black tee by giving it contrasting sleeves. Since stripes are my favorite print, I used the sleeves from this striped top. If I know I'm not going to wear something more than once, I refashion a refashion. :-)

Sporty Florals

When I do shop I don't usually look in the dresses section. Once in a while I veer over and see if I get lucky and I did with this floral midi bodycon dress. It was in the clearance section for $7 bucks and it fit perfectly. Score! Oh, and I added the zipper to the back.

L.A. Styling

This past weekend, Mel and I went to L.A. to attend a friend's 30th birthday party. Most of L.A. nightclubs have a strict dress code and are pretty selective. This meant that I'll most likely have to wear a dress. Who wears dresses to nightclubs? No, seriously I usually only wear dresses to weddings and events as such and I don't like when I'm forced to wear one. I do have a LBD but I think it may be more appropriate for a funeral or work-related event.  So, after some wardrobe stressing I went to The Rack and found a black bodycon dress on clearance for $15 which I felt was more appropriate for a L.A. nightclub.

Remix'd: Kimono Jacket

Kimono jackets are another trend that I've been noticing AND I really like so I decided to make my own from a over sized button up shirt.

Boho Chic

This week's theme for Mamanista Fridays is boho chic. Boho are pieces with gypsy prints and patterns, fringe, floppy hats, vests, maxi skirts, feathers, headbands, florals, crochet and I'm sure the list goes on. I have a few pieces that fall within this list and I chose my denim vest, off white dress and fringe boots to create this look.

Remix'd: Tie Dye Shirt

This week I'm styling a tie dye shirt I made using bleach. Quick and easy project to do on a warm afternoon.

Cropped

The crop top is a huge spring and summer trend and I had to jump on the bandwagon. I think anyone can wear it and it comes in different lengths so you can choose how much skin you want to show.

Remix'd: Festival Inspired

Weekend 2 of the Coachella Festival is this upcoming weekend and sadly I will not be attending. Again. But that's alright, I can pretend. In spirit of festival style I created a fringe tee and scalloped edge denim shorts.

Remix'd: Denim Jacket

My son outgrew one of his denim jackets so of course I took it and made it more fun. I applied a printed sheet to the back panel and on the front of the pockets. I thrifted the sheet but you can use anything you want such as a graphic tee.

Casual Friday

Just a simple look today featuring one of my favorite tees and sneakers.

Remix'd: Military Vest, Finally!

I'm going to try to post 2 tutorials a week, time permitting of course. The second tutorial for this week is a military vest. I know I'm late to the game but I finally have one and as they say, better late than never. I found this cute military jacket a few weeks back at the thrift store and knew that it would make for the perfect vest. I love that it has a patterned panel in the back.

Remix'd: Exposed Zippers

This week's refashion remix is exposed zippers. Exposed zippers are zippers that are clearly visible. It can be placed anywhere and it adds a little fun to something that may or may not be plain. I was so excited completing this super easy project that I added zippers to a tee, blouse, dress, crop top and a tank. I placed all of the zippers on the back.

Denim X 2

It's April already and there are plenty of trends to try and wear for the Spring months. One trend that I really want to try is the 2 piece patterned sets such as a floral crop top with a matching floral pencil skirt or striped blazer with matching striped shorts. While I'm not wearing matching printed pieces, the denim on denim look is a trend that I like and think will be here for a little while longer. 

Remix'd: Printed Off The Shoulder Sweatshirt

The weather in the Bay Area has not been consistent and some days are really warm while others may be a little breezy. We've also had some rainy days but that didn't last too long either. With that said, I've decided to create an off the shoulder sweatshirt and made it a bit more fun by adding a printed piece to the front which I cut from an old pillowcase.

Spring Colors

This week's Mamanista Friday's theme is pastels. Pastels are colors like mint green, sky blue, lavender and baby pink. I don't have anything in those colors and I almost didn't participate until I remembered my peach ankle pants. This is considered a pastel color right?

Cute and Casual

I don't shop that often but when I do I usually end up back at the store to make returns. For me, I can't just return the items that I changed my mind about, I have to go and search for something better. Always! Both the bomber jacket and the sneaker wedges were scored on separate return trips. I believe I was in Nordstrom Rack at least 3 times in 1 week. I guess the point of all of this is to say uh, I don't know. I just thought I'd share.

Remix'd: Mixed Print Shirt

This week's remix is a mixed print shirt. Mixed prints is currently trending heavily with mixes such as florals and stripes, leopard and polka dots, or even paisley and plaid. The key to making this work is to make sure at least one color repeats in each pattern, mix small prints with bigger prints, and limit prints to two. For this project I took two printed shirts and made it into one color-blocked print top.

Green Envy

I'm so excited about the green jeans I found at the Goodwill half off sale last weekend. Besides my rust colored pair, all of my jeans are blue and black so this pair was happy to join the rest. This shade of green is perfect to wear year round and I'm already thinking of many other ways to style them. 

Military Jacket + Poshmark Party

If you don't already know about Poshmark, you should. Poshmark is a free app that makes it easy to buy and sell your new or gently used clothing and shoes. It's really simple and I've sold quite a few pieces from my closet. I was invited to Poshmark's live Posh Party in San Francisco last night and I made sure I was there. It was held later in the evening at a nice hotel/restaurant and it included 2 free drinks. :-)
