Outfit Crush: Red Beanie

This week's outfit crush is worn by Cara Delevingne. Her off duty street style is always relaxed and comfortable. What makes this look perfect is that anyone can recreate it. It has simple pieces and looks effortless and stylish at the same time. You can also wear any style of boots with this look such as combat boots. My favorite piece in this look of course is the red beanie. I just love beanies and hats in particular. Here's her look for less.

What do you think about Cara's look? Would you wear it?

ModCloth

Last week I was contacted by ModCloth to participate in a styling campaign called Uniquely You. The challenge is to create a look on Polyvore based around one specific item or accessory that is presented to you. Up to 7 additional items from the Modcloth site can be added to complete the look. The item for this week was the Palette on Parade dress. As some of you guys know, I'm not a big fan of dresses but I do love a challenge. I made the dress more fitting to my style by adding a moto jacket and a pair of ankle boots to add some edginess to it. Simple accessories and a bag similar in color to the boots finished off the look.

What do you guys think about this look? What items would you add to make it Uniquely You?

DIY: Shirtdress

I'm back with another DIY and this week I made a shirt dress from 2 men's button up shirts. By using two shirts I was able to make the dress color blocked. It's best to use shirts that are much larger than you. I used a large for the top half and an extra large for the bottom half. I ended up not having enough for the dress to wrap completely around me, so I used leftover scraps and created side panels. Next time I will use a 2xl button up.

I'm not really big on dresses but I like this style and it was cool to make. Are you big on dresses?

Classics

Today I decided to style my outfit using classic colors and pieces. Blazer, check! white tee, check! Black pants, check! Sneakers, check! Not everyone may consider a pair of sneakers as a classic piece to have in your wardrobe, but I do! What classic pieces do you have in your closet?

Outfit Crush: Tomboy Chic

This week's outfit crush is from Zoe Saldana. I love this look on Zoe because I'm used to seeing photos of her wearing dresses and heels. I like that she is wearing a cute dressed down look that she totally pulls off. Refinery29 calls this look preppy maybe because of the blazer and oxfords being worn together but I think it's more on the tomboy side. It's right up my alley and I'd definitely rock it any time. Here's her look for less.

DIY: Color Blocked Shirts

This week I'm giving you not 1 but 3 different ways to make a colorblock top. The project can be done using 2 or more colors and you can totally choose where you want each color block piece to go and how big or wide you would like it to be. You can use old t-shirts or shirts that you have lying around the house or even new shirts that you just want to make some pretty changes to. It's best to use shirts of the same size and material to help make things go easier and smoother.
Supplies:
t-shirts/shirts
scissors
ruler
pins
chalk
sewing machine/serger
  • Mark on each shirt where you want each block to be place using the chalk and ruler and cut.
  • place each piece right sides facing each other making sure one piece is inside of the other piece.
  • Pin around the edges to hold in place.
  • Sew using a straight stitch and then repeat using a zig zag stitch. You can also use a serger.
  • Iron the seams

All black with a pop of neon
I made this shirt a little longer so it can be worn as a tunic with leggings. I used two t-shirts.

Diagonally cute
I made this shirt using two henleys. I thought I'd challenge myself but make sure you use shirts with nothing on it.

Tomboy Swag
For this shirt, I used black and white t-shirts. You can never go wrong with this classic color trend.

What do you guys think about this project? Which look is your favorite?

Happy MLK Jr. Day!!!

More Layers

Yay to Friday ya'll!! I decided to do another layered look but went more casual by ditching the sweater for a graphic t-shirt and wearing a good ole pair of chucks.

Have a great weekend ladies!!

Outfit Crush: Winter Sweater

I came across this cute layered look on Style Caster last week and it shared 50 winter outfits to copy right now. There were quite a few that I saved to my inspiration list and this is one of my favs. It is worn by blogger Irena from A Portable Package who's also a dentist by day. Pretty cool, huh? She has a really nice style with looks that most of us would love to copy and make our own.

wish list

1 / 2 / 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7

This week's fantasy list is all about tops (plus a shoe). I've always believed that if you have plenty of tops and a few nice pairs of shoes, you can create plenty of different looks to wear.
What item do you have more of in your closet?

Outfit Crush: Joggers

My first outfit crush of 2014 is from Mimi over at Mimi G Style. Mimi has a great style and makes most of her own awesome clothing. She usually styles her outfits on the dressier side so it's always a treat for me when she decides to keep it casual. Both of these looks include jogger/harem pants and I did own a pair but it wasn't what I had in mind fabric wise. Hopefully I can find a better pair so I can recreate one or both of these casual cool looks because I just might be too tall for them.

Not everyone may be into this style of pants but I think anyone can get away with it if styled properly and the crotch isn't super low. It also looks just as great styled with a pair of heels. Oh and if you're thinking it's too cold to wear this look now, you should come on over to Cali. ;-) Harem pants can easily be winterized by wearing layers on top such as a chunky knit scarf, sweater or beanie.

Would you rock jogger/harem pants?

DIY: Tie Dye Jeans

This week's DIY project is Tie Dye Jeans. I know tie dye articles of clothing are usually worn in summer months but who cares about the rules. Besides, I'm in Cali which mean there are usually more warm days than not. At least during the day. For those of you who may recall my acid wash jeans project, it may seem like it's similar to this project but I promise the results are different. I'm going to do this project again with colored dye using my white jeans to wear during the upcoming Spring months.
Supplies:
jeans
rubber bands
bleach
bucket
gloves

  • Soak the jeans in cold water and ring out.
  • Tie the rubber bands around the jeans in bunches until it is tied into a ball. There is no right or wrong way to do this. The areas with the bands is where the darker patches will be.
  • Mix 1 part bleach and 2 parts water in the bucket. With gloves, place the jeans into the bucket.
  • Let sit for a few hours or so and keep checking until desired results are achieved. I let mine sit for 3 hours. More time = more white/lighter patches.
  • Remove the jeans with the gloves and rinse in sink or tub with cold water.
  • Air dry. I let mine dry overnight.
  • Machine wash alone with soap and then machine dry.

What do you think about tie dye jeans? What color dyes should I use for my Spring pair?
