This week's refashion remix is exposed zippers. Exposed zippers are zippers that are clearly visible. It can be placed anywhere and it adds a little fun to something that may or may not be plain. I was so excited completing this super easy project that I added zippers to a tee, blouse, dress, crop top and a tank. I placed all of the zippers on the back.
Supplies:
item(s) that you want to add zipper(s) to
fabric glue or liquid stitch
zippers
chalk or marking pen
scissors
measuring tape or ruler
matching thread
pins
sewing machine
- Using the chalk and measuring tape, mark where you want the zipper to go.
- Cut a slit about half a inch shorter than the length of the zipper used.
FABRIC GLUE
- Unzip the zipper and apply glue to the back of it. Spread the glue out evenly.
- Press down onto each side of the slit making sure the top part of the zipper is folded down over the top of the shirt or item used. This will leave a more professional look.
- Let dry.
SEWING MACHINE
- Pin the zipper onto the shirt where you cut the slit.
- Sew into place using a zipper foot.
How do you feel about having your zippers exposed?
