Remix'd: Kimono Jacket

kimono jacket diy {who is that girl mo?}
Kimono jackets are another trend that I've been noticing AND I really like so I decided to make my own from a over sized button up shirt.

Supplies:
oversized men's or women's shirt
scissors
pins
sewing machine or hem tape
  • Remove the collar of the shirt by cutting along the seam's edge.
  • Cut 1 inch strips along the collar. Fold under and pin down.
  • With the shirt on, mark where you want to hem to end adding a 1 inch seam allowance. The shirt was already at the length I wanted.
  • Mark on the sleeves where you want it to end. Cut at an angle with a 1 inch seam allowance. I marked mine to end a little past my elbow. Fold under and pin.
  • Remove the buttons from the shirt. Fold under both sides of the button lapels and pin.
  • Sew all of the areas that have been pinned.
  • *Optional* You can use iron-on hem tape if you don't have a sewing machine.

  22. Stopping by from ColorBlindBlog!

    What a great DIY idea! I have received a sewing machine as a gift but have yet to put it to use, this looks easy enough (I hope) to embark on.

    It looks great on you and I'm sure it will also look perfect with your shirt and denim cut-offs.

    P.S. Have you added your blog to the "I’m a Miss/Mrs Looking Good Blog Directory"? Pls. visit my blog and add your URL, it's in one of my menus. Thanks!
